TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Cushman & Wakefield (NYSE: CWK) recently represented Microsoft in its
132,000-square-foot (sf) Canadian headquarters lease in downtown
Toronto. Microsoft was represented by Kent Foster from the firm’s Global
Occupier Services team, and the Toronto leasing team of Derek Snyder,
Cameron Mitchell, Sabrina Oliver and Craig Trenholm.
The team developed and implemented a complete consolidation and
relocation strategy for the technology company’s new headquarters at 81
Bay Street (CIBC SQUARE).
“We thank Microsoft for the opportunity to work on something truly world
class here, and we look forward to building off this successful project
to further strengthen our partnership,” said Foster.
“Toronto is one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in North America and
because of that, we are seeing an unprecedented tight office market,”
said Snyder. “Having a clear understanding of Microsoft’s goals coupled
with our deep experience of navigating these tight market conditions, we
delivered an optimal occupancy solution for Microsoft that also meets
the company’s business needs.”
Microsoft will be consolidating two of its locations, including its
current headquarters, into 81 Bay Street, where the company will occupy
four high-rise floors of the tower that is currently under construction.
The new office will also include a state-of-the-art Technology Centre, a
designated space to showcase Microsoft technology to customers and
partners.
Location was paramount for Microsoft, as many of the company’s key
customers are in Toronto’s downtown core. CIBC SQUARE is adjacent to
Toronto’s major transportation hub, Union Station, where employees and
customers can easily access the GO Train, TTC and Via Rail, and is also
in proximity to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Central to amenities
such as restaurants, shopping, live entertainment and sporting venues,
this location is well-situated to attract and retain top talent.
In the past eight years, Cushman & Wakefield has been involved in
launching 85 percent of the new office towers in downtown Toronto.
Microsoft will take occupancy in the fall of 2020.
